About Me

Who am I?

Hello there! Welcome to my page, hope you stick around. My name is Ella Gallego; I'm a Queer freelance editor looking to help writers perfect their manuscripts, especially anyone writing LGBTQ+ stories, romance, urban fantasy, fantasy, or erotica.

Background, Education, & Brief Work Experience Overview

It all began in 1997 in a small town in Washington State, USA. Just kidding; I won't go all the way back. Let's fast forward twenty-one years. I graduated with Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Literature and a Creative Writing concentration. After graduating, I took some time to obtain my CELTA in Edinburgh, Scotland so that I could teach English to non-native English speakers abroad as well as gain work experience at the independent publisher Luath Press. The program not only helped me to hone my knowledge of English rules and structure, but my time with Luath gave me publishing experience in copyediting and typesetting. I was given the opportunity to work on books like The Glasgow Effect: A Tale of Class, Capitalism and Carbon Footprint, as well as The Case for the Catalans: Why So Many Catalans No Longer Want to be Part of Spain

And then COVID struck. Like many people, I had to put my life on hold as I waited for restrictions to lift. When they finally did, I attended the University of Stirling in Scotland where I obtained my MLitt in Publishing Studies with Distinction. My time in Scotland provided me numerous opportunities where I was:

  • Lead designer and typesetter of the literary anthology Stryvling.
  • Media and events coordinator for the SSY organization.
  • Freelance digital designer.
  • Freelance editor.
  • Publicity and marketing coordinator for Kitchen Press and their book Eat, Bike, Cook: Food, Stories & Recipes from Female Cyclists.

And now, here I am. Ready to jump head-first into your  book and ensure that it is its best form so that you can feel comfortable taking the next steps into publishing.

Passions

Reading and writing is my passion, etc., etc. But I do mean it, even if it is cliché! Since leaving academia, I have taken to collating and writing about readership research data within the romance erotica genre, specifically dark romance and the phenomena of monster eroticism within popular culture and media. When I'm not doing research on monstrosity or the romance genre, I'm stuck in the kitchen trying to perfect my ramen recipe, or doing linograph printing/screen printing. I also have a serious case of wanderlust and love to travel.
